Dear Parishioners of Immaculate Conception,
May the love of Christ be with each of you!!! I am very to continue leading Youth Ministry at Immaculate Conception. Once I visited Washington and attended Mass at Immaculate Conception, I knew that it was a place that I could call home and grow in Christ. My vision for youth ministry is simple: to bring kids and their families closer to Christ. With both the middle and high school programs up and going, the same mentality of bringing the message of Christ’s love to those who are the Church of today is my priority. We have a lot of great activities planned for the year, everything from Catechesis to service trips and other games and activities that will bring us all closer to Jesus, to the Church, and to each other.
I came to Washington from northern Virginia, just outside of Washington, D.C. where I grew up to big cities, lots of traffic, and the White House and Lincoln Memorial just down the road, although I have been a youth minister in a small city in Ohio before coming to IC. I have spent the two years after graduating from college, traveling around the western United States as a volunteer youth minister with an organization called Reach Youth Ministry, based in Helena, Montana. My Reach teammates and I organized and hosted retreats and youth groups for Catholic Youth from New Mexico to Washington State and everywhere in between. Serving with Reach taught me to appreciate the love God has for me and allowed me to find the path in life that the Lord has called me to, which is to continue to encourage the youth of this country to have a closer relationship with Christ. I will use the knowledge I gained from studying communications and theology at Mount St. Mary's University, in Emmitsburg, Maryland, (Go Mount!!!!) to spread the love of Christ. All the activities I did in college, from acting as a peer mentor to the incoming freshmen, helping on various retreats with my school’s campus ministry program, writing for the sports section of the campus paper, and working with the Best Buddies and Special Olympics, reinforced that I want to work closely with others in spreading Christ’s joy. As an ardent baseball fan and lifetime supporter of the New York Yankees, I realize I am in Steelers territory and will need to brush up on my football knowledge and possibly acquire a Terrible Towel. I also support the Pirates as my National League team, GO BUCS!!!
I look forward to meeting everyone and getting your input on how to make the Youth Ministry program at Immaculate Conception meet our collective goal of developing our youth in Christ. Youth Ministry cannot be possible without your support and prayers. I thank you all for that in advance. Any time you want to stop by and see what is going on in our program, you are all more than welcome to come and see the love of Christ being spread to the young people of the parish. For the adults of the parish, please consider volunteering to be part of Youth Ministry at Immaculate Conception. This is a great service to the church and sends a great message to our youth about actively demonstrating your love for them and for the Church. Please let me know if you are interested. I look forward to making this year a great one!
